I'm in the middle of insulation my rental with some of this government grant thing (btw shop around even with these deals - I halved my original quote).
I see on one of their websites they say it can be claimed against income.
Now if I had old insulation and it was a top-up or replacement of that I can understand it being claimable but if the house never had any would it not be an improvement rather than maintenance therefore be a capital improvement?
I'm going a general renovation (bought the house cheap and am now 'paying' the difference in upgrading) so most of my expenses are not claimable against income (but would have been despicable which I opted out of).
Does any one have any comments regarding insulation in this sense? Of course I'd love to claim it against my taxable income!
