Sean is asking over here: http://www.propertytalk.com/forum/sh...130#post133130 about the effectiveness of advertising in the events sub-forum because fewer people look at it according to the stats. Some people have suggested that this is okay because posts in that forum will turn up in the new posts area in any case. This I thought posed an interesting question, namely how do you use propertytalk? And how do you navigate around it?

The PT Daily News is my guru guide.
A 'new post' in a forum to do with lease
options in USA would be of no interest
to me.
Once I pick-up on a cogent thread, then
I subscribe to it (if I don't post) and that
gets me the "new post in thread" e-mail
alert when PTrs add their comments.
Accordingly, I voted for the last two options.
BTW . . .
David, I do wonder if Mods would usually
make use of the new posts option, being
a factor of their different level of interest?

Yeah I also only use the new posts button. I only navigate to a specific sub forum if I am trying to remember a thread I wanted to comment on but didn't at the time, or if I am trying to reference an old thread, or in pursuit of moderation... Love the new posts button
I always use the New Posts button unless I'm trying to find a specific thread I've read before.
One thing I would find handy with the New Posts list (and i'm not sure if it's technically possible or even feasible), is if you could check/tick the threads you don't want to read then be able to click on a 'Remove from New Posts list' button so you're left with just the ones you want.
In situations when I don't have a lot of time but want to get through all the important stuff , it's a bit of a hassle to repeatedly scan through pages of new posts to get to the ones you want, or opening them up to make them disappear off the list. If I could cull a whole lot in a single move I'd be one happy bunny.
Cheers

What the 'New Posts' does is show you all threads which have one or more posts in it that you have not read. I don't believe there is a way to cull out selective threads from there list (I wish there was!).
What you CAN do, however, is mark ALL threads as read, so that you get rid of ALL posts as of now, effectively allowing you to start with a clean slate. I do this every so often - for example, after returning from a few weeks holiday.
To do this:
1. click on the Quick Links option at the top
2. Select 'Mark forums read'
This will then return an empty list when you use 'New Posts' - at least until such time someone adds a new one.
It's not quite what you are looking for, I know.. but it may be handy for you.Lisa

How I access Property talk
I have a Firefox bookmark that lists my Dad's posts. After all he often has some great stories and insightful posts. If I still have some time I will then use the New Posts link.
Because I often don't have a lot of time I go to the last page of the new posts to read the conversations that have "died down". That way I do not have to re-read posts to remind myself of the theme of the thread.
