LATEST: The economy shrank 0.3 per cent in the March quarter, with farming hit badly by drought and a big drop off in building, but the overall decline in gross domestic product was in line with economists’ expectations.
Statistics New Zealand said the agriculture and construction industries were the main contributors to the decline in gross domestic product in the quarter. This follows an increase in economic activity of 0.8 percent in the December 2007 quarter.
