  • Aluminium window repairs

I am in three minds about what to do on this one and wondered if anyone had any thoughts.

I have an old aluminium window. The handle is loose and the seal is gone allowing the window not to close snuggly. In a wind it will rattle a little and let a cold draft in.

Who should I ask to fix it - a handiman, a glazier, an aluminium window specialist, or what?

    Any ideas gratefully received.

    A handiman, I would think.

You can buy the replacement handles. As for the seals, the thin foam weatherseal tape, fixed to a cleaned and dried sash (if that is the right term) should provide a good seal.

I have never done this myself, but this is what I would try in the first instance.

Of course, if one is paying someone else to do it, then my DIY and see if it works strategy is perhaps not the best.

    Paul.

Having just said that, I would more likely ring my friend Shane who owns the local Exceed window maintenance franchise in Hamilton. This is what I did the last two times I needed glazing done, and I know that he does seals and handles also.

Any recommendations other than Exceed? The Exceed franchisee for Wellington is not back to work until the end of Jan 2010.

Not sure where you are Xris, any dealings I have had with Exceed in Christchurch have not been favourable, used to be - then - change of franchisee and ouch!!! Wont go into any further but not good! Now I have a very good man ( a small one man band) great, timely and very reasonably priced service.
