    Default Repainting aluminium windows

I've got some aged aluminium windows that still work fine, but look quite weathered from the outside. The original finish of then has worn out over time and I can see basically bare metal.

I've come across someone in Wellington who can respray them, and I see Resene have info for DIYers (basically, sand them, metal primer, then paint with enamel).

Has anyone had experience in doing this or seen the result?

    Hi Gerrard,
You could try alurestore.co.nz and also systemex.co.nz for recolouring aluminium joinery.
    Good luck
    Cheers Matt

Thanks. I've spoken to a local guy who does the same things. Just looking for alternatives at the mo.

    Cheers

I sanded, then put on a metal primer (with an anti rust component in it), then enamel under and top coats and they are looking pretty good 3 years on - with the exception of where I didn't have the tape down hard enough!

    Hi Gerrard
Make sure you use a "non ferrous" primer commonly called an "etch" primer. PA10 is the traditionally used product but it's really expensive. AE12 is just as good but a lot cheaper. You also need the thinner that is specifically made for these products.
    Cheers!
Oh yes, also you can get this product in areosol cans (so you don't need the thinner) Wattyl produce it in grey, black & white.... you'll get a better finish.
