  • Property investor mags

New here, but need help on NZ real estate investing magazines. I have been somehow (don't know why) receiving an electronic magazine called NZ Real Estate Investor. I don't generally take any notice of these but decided to look at the latest issue. I was surprised to see an April edition released in May and found the content somewhat limited and outdated. Is this produced in Aussie? It seems whoever writes it is not in touch with NZ or knows its geography. Does anyone know its background?

That magazine has it's roots in KPI magazine and is produced by David Hows. The email list they use comes from KPI and possibly Richmastery (a one time owner of KPI). Search the forums for more on that. Waaaaay too much to go into in a single post.

Currently the only print version is produced by finance specialists Good Returns. You can get info on the magazines at the NZPIF website: http://www.nzpif.org.nz/afawcs011152...-magazine.html

Rupter - it may well be best for you to subscribe to your local property investors' association and get the magazine via them (just triple check they do it). The Auckland Property Investors' Association (Incorporated) certainly wraps the magazine into the annual subscription.

Go to www.nzpif.org.nz or if in Auckland www.apia.org.nz

Hi Rupter. A lot of the content is written by kiwi's. The electronic format can be a tad frustrating but the content is improving all the time. I read both.

Thank you for you advise. I have done some investigations - none of the staff are NZers and apparently (I heard through a few of my writer friends they can't get Kiwis to write the content because they have a habit of not paying). I picked up a copy of the magazine suggested and am happy with that.

Hi Rupter. I'm pretty sure Robyn Grinter is in the latest one and one of the PT people writes for them. I have been in a few mags now and it is not normal to get paid unles you are a journalist. Anyway as long as you're happy :-)

Did Robyn write the article? I still will not support a magazine that owes journalists more than $20,000!

Fair enough, I didn't know that!! I was just saying that often it's investors like me who write for some of the mags and we don't expect to get paid.

                  Hi Rupter

Would you mind referencing that claim? It just seems that your question about the magazine is turning into a campaign against them... Call me suspicious if you like but I'm beginning to wonder if your initial question was genuine. You aren't for example a former writer for them or anything?

Robyn is in the latest one, I don't think she wrote it though it was written about Robyn in a not quite interview/ 3rd person style. Still it was an interesting article. To back up what Dean said, yep we rarely expect to get paid to write articles.

                  Cheers
                  David

                    Some facts

-The NZ Real Estate Investor magazine is published by Source Digital Productions in Australia, who also publish Australian Real Estate Investor magazine.
Its 8 employees have lived in 5 different Australian states, 4 different NZ locations (North & South) and London.
                    - NZREI employs 3 fulltime journalists of its own and no longer uses contract writers. These people conduct research and interviews and write articles along with some of their regular columnists.
                    - NZREI does not pay people for interviews or columns.
                    - NZREI has outstanding invoices for editorial content of approx: $1,400, not the $20,000 claimed.
                    - David Hows is a consultant to SDP. He is neither director or shareholder in any form.
                    - The 4 Real Estate Investor magazines published by SDP have 171,000 registered subscribers of which 37,000 are for the NZ edition.
                    - The accusations of using other databases for subscribers stem from Richmastery. Despite several attempts to encourge the RM customers to complain to the Australian Spam Authorities, only 3 complaints have ever been received, 2 of which were from current Richmastery employees. Our subscriber base is now 8 times the size what RM's and KPI's ever were in my time with them, so this accusation is out of proportion with the total number of peole we reach.
                    - Robyn Grinters story was written by one of our own in-house journalists after interviewing her.
                    - Form your own opion at www.realestatemagazine.co.nz . It does not cost you anything...

online version is good particularly if you travel a lot - having access to mags at the click of a mouse is much better than carting them in a carry on - i can see relevance in the market for both forms ie hard copy and electronic
