Aussie Domain Names

Hey is anyone else wondering why Aussie domain names cost between $79.00 to $80.00 USD - yes thats US dollars for 2 years?

This is the pricing from Melbourne IT

Register for 2 Years ($80.00)
All Domain Name prices are displayed in US Dollars (USD).

I can go to GoDaddy and register a .com for 2 years for less than $9 USD!!!

It sucks - its typical of Aussies to lock something down and over price - like their taxes - it sucks.

Also to buy a .com.au domain name I think you have to have an Australain ABN number. Whereas anyone can buy a .co.nz or .com domain name.
Maybe the extra cost comes from someone having to manually verifying the ABN number is valid.

Yeah - thats a good point that the extra check for the ABN...

Still - it sucks
