15 ways rich people think differently

    1. Rich people think selfishness is a virtue
Average people feel they need to save the world and put others before themselves which is keeping them poor. Rich people take the attitude that if they don’t help themselves first they can’t help anyone else.

    2. Rich people have an action mentality
You wouldn’t see a rich person lining up to play the lottery (even before they were rich). Average people are always waiting on someone else to help them get rich - the Lotto, Government, friend or spouse – but it only keeps them poor. Rich people take action and spend time solving problems.

    3. Rich people favour specific knowledge over formal education
Average people believe the road to riches is through doing masters and doctorates. Rich people are generally rich because they have made money selling a specific knowledge they have acquired.

    4. Rich people dream of the future
Rich people spend a lot of time looking into the future, setting goals and looking forward to what lies ahead. Average people dwell on the past which often holds them back by making them unhappy or depressed.

    5. Rich people think about money logically
Average and well-educated people can fall into the trap of thinking about money emotionally and just wanting to retire comfortably. Rich people maintain a logical relationship with money viewing it as a tool that represents options and opportunities.

    6. Rich people follow their passion
Oprah Winfrey said it – you’ve got to follow your passion and do what you love. Rich people find a way of getting paid for doing something they love. Average people earn money doing things they don’t love.

    7. Rich people aim high
Average people set low expectations to avoid disappointment whereas rich people set huge expectations and follow their dreams.

    8. Rich people believe you have to “be” someone
Average people on the other hand believe you have to “do” something to be rich and focus on immediate results. Rich people continuously focus on bettering themselves and learn from success and failures.

    9. Rich people use other people’s money
Average people believe they need their own money to make money whereas rich people have no problem using other people’s.

    10. Rich people live below their means
It seems contradictory to the above statement but rich people adopt the attitude of getting rich so you can afford to live below your means. Average people live beyond their means.

    11. Rich people teach their children how to be rich
Average people teach their children how to survive whereas rich people teach their children from an early age about the world of haves and have nots.

    12. Rich people don’t let money stress them out
Average people do. Rich people find peace of mind in wealth and are not afraid to admit that money can solve most problems – allowing them to make more money. Average people see money as a continuous battle and necessary evil they have to endure.

    13. Rich people would rather be educated than entertained
Average people are the opposite. They read novels, tabloids and entertainment rather than continuously educating themselves after school.

    14. Rich people surround themselves with like-minded people
Average people think rich people are snobs and have a negative attitude towards the super rich. Rich people steer clear of the doom and gloom attitudes and people – adding fuel to the fire of the “snob” label.

    15. Rich people focus on earning
Average people focus on saving and miss big opportunities by trying to live frugally. Rich people constantly focus on the big picture – and how to earn the big bucks.

Agree - except for no.9 which makes me think Blue Chip (yes I invested!), Rich Mastery and the list goes on...perhaps the word "honorably" should fit into this then Rich People would not be commonly associated with taking other people's money via devious means to other people's detriment...and we have seen what happens to those rich people who one day were rich and the next day weren't and gone by lunchtime.

What this is referring to is the "power of leverage" i.e. borrowing other peoples money.

Whereas "taking other people's money via devious means to other people's detriment" is theft..... totally different to borrowing

Glad for the explanation thank you Ahar. I wanted to make a point that there is different types of rich people those who deal with honour and those who don't.

And unfortunately, there are a fair few of the second type who claim to want to "help you achieve your dreams".....and just take people for a ride.

For many folk, like those who truely believed they were making a sound investment, their dreams turned into nightmares

I am sure you are very aware of the many lenders, developers, valuers, auditors, trustees, and regulators over the last 5 years who have allowed huge losses in the property sector to occur.
The vast majority of this money lost was NOT through " help you achieve your dreams" spruiking.

Yep those with money are often quiet miserly. Gina Rhinehart supposedly insists on bill splitting when she's dining with family and friends and she's on path to becoming the richest person in the world.

                cheers,

Mmmmm.....possibly the woman is tired of freeloaders

I know that I'm getting tired of my family who, believing that I'm wealthy also believe that "I can afford it"..... "it" being whatever takes their fancy....fortunately, nothing too expensive

Doesn't matter how many times I tell them otherwise, they just don't seem to get it.

Getting to be bit of a drag....in fact rather annoying, considering their attitude in years past.

Which brings me to point 10.....

                    10. Rich people live below their means
It seems contradictory to the above statement but rich people adopt the attitude of getting rich so you can afford to live below your means. Average people live beyond their means.
Was always told I was money hungry, miserly etc.........and all because I worked hard and really watched my spending

To my family and others, this translated to "being a bit tight"....not so, it's just I've always been reluctant to squander my money on do dahs

Now, for those forumites who like to read "good books", I really recommend "The Millionaire Next Door"

This is written by a couple of American academics who spent 20yrs investigating what wealthy people do differently

And yes, they found that rich people do indeed live below their means.....in other words, they save a proportion of their income

I'm constantly horrified by folk who have nothing put aside for rainy days

And for many of these people, it's now raining.....thinking here of the global situation

Wow! That was interesting. It only shows that every person think uniquely.

I read out your interesting and informative post...Certain two facts about rich persons on this post unequivocally the best we have all had...selling a specific knowledge they have acquired...and rich people set huge expectations and follow their dreams...
                        I agreed what's said above!!!

Thanks very much for this post. Now I understand why I cannot be rich - I don't have any one of these 15 ways of thinking ! I believe it is very difficult for me to get used to all of it.

A test that reveals your likelihood of retiring wealthy

Originally posted by jc013 View Post

Don't dispear....you can change BUT you have to work at it.

I remember years ago an older, wiser and yes, richer friend set me a task....a question to answer.

He claimed it would reveal a lot about oneself and whether a person had what it took to accumulate wealth.

So to help you and all these forumites I'll set you the same task.....all you need is a pen, paper and two minutes of your time

Now I'm going to give you a word and what I want you to do is to write down everything you feel, think and know about this subject. What's wanted is quick spontaneous words, perhaps very short sentences .....

                              But definatelyNOT an essay

For example, if I said the word was DOG.....then I'd expect a list looking perhaps like..... barks, smells, good friend in need, eats me out of house and home, good burglar deterent, wags tail a lot, like beaches etc

                              You get it????

                              Are you ready?????

Make sure you're ready.....you've only got 2 minutes to do this in

The word I'm going to give you ....the one I want you write down your feelings about, what you know etc is....................................

                              MONEY

I'll let you know next week what this reveals about yourself

                              Have a nice weekend
