You may or may not be using this (Dropbox)

i found this website helps be in with my listings and presentation.

    dropbox.com

good for having you file on the move (free membership with 2gb of storage , that's like a virtual USB drive).
    • especially good if you use ipod or iphone because it is an application that goes with it.
    • stumle on this while surfing youtube (as you do). hahah.
    1. go to website sign up
    2. install the small prog
    3. then drag the file you want to have live in to the folder.
    4. log in at website and access file from anywhere.
Hope you guys found it as useful as i did.

Microsoft's skydrive is available with 5GB free online storage space. It seamlessly works with all the latest office products too.

And it is now hooked into Hotmail as well.

I love dropbox. I have all my personal files in it on the work computer. On the odd occasion I drag out the laptop at home I can use all the files. It's also great when I get onto my sisters computer in Aussie.

Also, It is effectively backed up, so there's no worries if my computer dies. You can see I think it's the best thing since sliced bread!

Dropbox is an awesome service but you should be a bit careful about how you use. They have had issues with their T&C (Claiming full IP rights to all content) and also had a technical glitch whcih allowed people to access other peoples accounts.

It is also not a true backup service i.e. it will not back up revisions. So if you make a mistake on your local PC the mistake will be copied to dropbox.

But as a "online USB" it is great tool and I use it all the time. Sign up your friends to increase your free storage also.

i have used it in the past for just general files.

How are you using it for listings and presentations ?

Do you use your lap top / ipad for presentations and if so how do you leave people with a copy of the contract without a printer?

You should be leaving a copy with people when they sign somthign not the next day.

Perhaps they responded to any concerns expressed?

I have been using it for well over a year. I have it on my work computer, home computer, blackberry (plus wifes iPhone), parents computer (offsite back up) and have a linked file with my brother so we can share files easily rather than email since I help him with some of his business admin.

Most online sites have struggled with this at some point as they have to have rights to 'publish' it anywhere since you have access to it anyware. I think that has been address as stated above. Facebook went through this as well, as did Flickr.

I think it does has some form of revisions but that might just be the paid account. My guess is most people dont have a back up and if they do, it doesn't store different versions so it is as good as most.

I think it will only get better as well. They have just closed a funding round at a US$10B valuation and will need to keep up to keep on level or better than Googles 'Docs', Apples iCloud about to be launched and Microsofts skydrive - that is some heavywieght competition and top investors are still backing it!

Microsoft's skydrive and google docs both have integrated online office suites. Dropbox will fade into the background with the other online filestore sites; there are hundreds of them.

Online office suites with online editing, applications and visualisation will eat the filestore sites alive.

Will be interesting to see how the Apple one pans out. It is looking likely to be just an online music storage site for iPods and iPads to help Apple keep control of the music store side, but also sounds kinda useful for that. The public will all flock to it I reckon. If they build it out to a full media storage suite with streaming for everyone's home media, then that'll be awesome.

But I see it as different to a file store area - which means that Skydrive and Google Docs will still be battling it out for the real cloud stuff.

Dropbox's integration into windows is what makes it so simple - the files are all synconised in your mydocs folder. This differs to the google docs version (i haven't tried skydrive yet) which requires you to get the files from online. Thas why I prefer dropbox.

iCloud does sound interesting by my concern is it locks you into apple. I prefer to have all my files on my harddrive (plus backed up on a separate drive and some backed up online as well). The next few years will be interesting though - delivery of HD content through the internet if quick enough may mean we never need to own anything (I watched a movie downloaded on my Tivo last weekend - the selection was absolutely crap but we found one and were watching it within 5 minutes)
