  • Allowing pets?

I would like to get some opinions on this. I know a lot of people who do not allow animals and I think that it can hurt in the long run. Most people have at least one pet, most commonly a dog or a cat. I have always felt it is best to allow pets but set a limit dependable on the size and number of said pets. So allowing one large dog or two smaller dogs. With cats, simply allowing 2 of them possibly requesting they have to be fixed and declawed. What are your thoughts on pets? Do you allow them?

I just let a 1 BR place (fenced) usually advertise as "pets negotiable". That way if its someone with a Rotweiller you can pass. Let to a young professional guy just separated, has weekend custody of 2 extremely well behaved dogs (yes, it is a lot more common that you imagine!). He's a model tenant as well, would have been a pity to have let him go.

I've had solo Mums with kids cause more damage than tenants with dogs.
The property has to be suitable for the type of pet - eg fenced for dog/kids.
The three most harmful addictions are heroin, carbohydrates and a monthly salary - Fred Wilson.

Rentals that allow pets are sought after as there are so few of them esp. good quality rentals. Take a pet bond and charge extra per week.

        cheers,

I allow pets, ad says pets negotiable.
You have to be prepared to be strict and have the tenant pay for any damage to carpet.
That said there is seldom damage

Unless the carpet is beyond the depreciable life and the TT say no.
But yes - be strict and very selective.
As has been suggested a lot of people pets are better behaved than others children.

                    That would depend.
Isn't that why you say 'negotiable'?

Wish my tenants would get a pony-there's half an acre of land there just over growing and running wild
