This is so compelling. I hate all things scary, but have to keep coming back to see what happens next! Please make a happy ending.

Day 13
“Where’s Lincoln?” was the first question the kids asked when they and Mrs. Exnzpat arrived this afternoon.
“I haven’t seen him since yesterday, or was it the day before – which was the truth – wouldn’t you say?”
I had had another frightening night. This time I woke standing in the doorway of the small bedroom. I heard voices again: the woman’s and the child. The child had tried to hide. Climbing up into ceiling through the trap-door but the man was no fool. He knew! Just like I know – there is no escape. My head hurt so bad that I crumpled to the floor; so painful was the vision and so confusing because in this vision the man is me and yet he is not me. Am I possessed? What had happened to Lincoln? Where was my faithful companion from these last two weeks? Lincoln had seen the same things I had – he was my witness – and so only he can refute my madness! And I am not mad! It is this house! This accursed redo! I am not mad!
While the children searched the neighborhood for Lincoln; in a fog of pain, I gave Mrs. Exnzpat a tour of the house. It had all gone according to the schedule and was ready for rent. The agency already had the key and would be here on Monday and start interviewing potential renters.
While on the whole, pleased with the job, Mrs. Exnzpat was particularly unhappy with the small bedroom and the open and unfinished wall. I explained my suspicion that the wall may have housed mold and I assured her that now that the insulation was here I could finish the drywall, taping and mudding tonight, and tomorrow morning, before we left have it painted up nice and fresh like. She didn’t need to worry – all would be well. She trusted me – as well she should -- hadn’t I done all this for her and the children?
Before bed we all went out one more time looking for Lincoln. We didn’t find him. The youngest suggested we put some food out on the front porch just in case, if during the night, he returned. It was good idea and I told him so. Also, we could put up “Lost Dog” flyers tomorrow morning -- someone would find him and call us – don’t worry. Together we put Lincoln’s favorite dog food out on the front porch and together went back into the house.
The kids had their sleeping bags and camp mattresses. Oddly enough, no one choose to sleep in the back bedroom. Instead, all three kids chose to sleep in the middle bedroom. Mrs. Exnzpat and I retired to the Master bedroom.Last edited by exnzpat; 29-06-2009, 01:26 AM.

The kids will find his mauled and mangled body and have to have therapy and Mrs Exnzpat will never forgive you.Jo Birch

Day 14
Now, where has that naughty doggy gone? Scritch-scratch – more dog than rat…
I feel that time remains eternal, mirrored against yesterday’s nightmare end. Was it a nightmare? Or was it release? Freedom at last, the pressure of my life; a slow ebbing ocean – quiet, soft and cool -- unfiltered by the clutter of the cosmos, pure, and untainted -- wide open to view – nothing in the way to cloud my perceptions. The confluence of materials, angled just right, pointing away from the core fiber of my brain allowing me, for the first time in a long time, to see clearly.
My head does not hurt anymore. Clear, clean and crisp at last. Only my memory is faded and fouled.
Last night I woke standing, I was in the back bedroom – I remember a scream, “OH MY GOD! WHAT ARE YOU DOING…” It was Mrs. Exnzpat. And that is all I remember.
Now, here is a strange thing… Drywall dust, paint and what looks very much like blood on my keyboard. How did it get there? My arms are coated in a black scabby substance -- it’s not paint, it’s not drywall mud. Curse my memory… If I go back and check PropertyTalk.com I might be able to figure out exactly what it is and how it got here.
Oh my God…
I see now.
Here by my side is my trusty nail puller, stained, raw and red. I don’t want to see anymore. The long sweet curve of the nail puller head would work – yes – it will work. I don’t want to read anymore – and I will not get up from my Laptop and go into the small bedroom and inspect my work.
In what’s left of my memory I hear screams, weeping and crying, cutting, snapping, thumping, crushing -- mournful and fearful sounds they are. And with time they too will fade.
Oh, what have I done?
How am I expected to endure? I don’t want to read anymore, I don’t want to hear anymore…
If I remove my eyes then it will be true. If I perforate my eardrums it will also be true. I reach for my trusty nail puller…

Now I am beginning to think you are just making it up, never mind it is an interesting read. Keep it up. Just hope Lincoln turns up again. Unharmed.
As Tan said please make it a happy ending.
Lincoln turned up wagging his tail, the spirits made their way to where spirits go in peace and you found great new tenants for the house who will pay you good money and stay there for years.
