  • Letting fees

I've been charging letting fees since October 1st. No resistance from tenants. Any other feedback from members?

Sounds good ! Just about anything else in the world these days has a "fee" attached.
Why not join the band wagon. (see banks in particular!)

We are bringing them in. So far so good.

It's actually another layer of protection for the owner, as tenants who can't afford it tend to be living their lives on the financial edge, which isn't a great start to a tenancy.

It also re-balances the motivation of the PM to chase market rent and risk tenant turnover (for which they get paid a letting fee) instead of avoiding the work, and under-renting the property to keep tenanats in place for years at a time.
We've always chased top rents as a matter of principle, but a certain large PM franchise is notorious in Wellington for leaving rents static for years to reduce workload.

Can anyone guess who I mean?

We will be looking into it shortly. We currently have a small fee but definitely room to increase. Are others charging a set fee or one weeks rent?
