Reid franchise may go under

Nelson's David Reid Homes franchise is facing liquidation, with an application by the Inland Revenue Department to be heard in a fortnight.
Co-owner Wayne Vollmer said today that he had been advised of the liquidation application, advertised in last night's Nelson Mail, but had yet to see it.
"We've been negotiating with them, but they're not prepared to negotiate," Mr Vollmer said.
He would not comment further other than to say that everybody was at work today, but approached on Monday he said the David Reid Homes side of his business had been struggling, and the relationship with the parent company was being reviewed.
"We've weathered the storm for the past two years with bugger-all sales," he said then.
The design-and-build business has five staff, down from the 21 it employed when it changed hands. Mr Vollmer said the company had just completed three David Reid Homes, with one more under contract.
On Monday he confirmed that bailiffs recently visited the company's premises. "It was over an employee that I had a dispute with and he reckons I owe him money. It's been sorted. It's settled." He said he intended to concentrate on the other part of the business, the large Galeo Estate subdivision in Maisey Rd near Mapua.
Five homes were occupied and five more due to begin, with a total of 62 sections, nine more of which would go on to the market this week.
Galeo would offer a specialised insurance package about to be launched by a national company, he said.
Also on Monday, David Reid Homes group general manager Ben Allan said the Nelson franchise was independently owned and run by the Vollmers.
"The Vollmers are currently reviewing their business affairs, including a range of options. We expect to know more in the near future, " Mr Allan said.
Wayne and Brent Vollmer bought the Nelson-Tasman and West Coast franchise of David Reid Homes in 2007 from the national organisation. In October last year the company opened a new show home in Redvale Rd, Tasman, advertising it on its website as "a contemporary coastal home with stunning `X' appeal".
In November David Reid Homes Tasman won the group Home Build Home Section in the ITM Wild Tomato Architecture Awards.
Inland Revenue solicitor Kasey Reid had no comment on the liquidation application.
