Are roughcast homes OK to buy?

    Hi all,

I'm looking to buy my first home and just wondering if roughcast is something I should stay away from? I did a bit of Googling and it's like a form of plaster if I'm not mistaken.

What year was the house built?
Is it roughcast over fibre cement sheets or masonry?

It is built in the 2000s and is over fibre cement.

if it is 1940's then there can be problems so you need to get checked

if 1996 to 2004 then it could be untreated timber on problematic cladding system and the same applies

your problem is your bank will not let a first home buyer assume risk. Best to fall in love with weatherboard or brick and save yourself disappointment when bank gets silly

Yes, roughcast homes can be okay to buy, but it ultimately depends on the condition and quality of the specific property. It is important to have a professional inspection done before purchasing any property to assess its condition and potential issues.

a bit off topic, but is fiber cement OK or is this something that I should stay away from? And what about hardi plank weatherboard? It's a type of fiber cement right?

In my opinion, fibre cement is fine as a cladding and it's gone the distance for decades. However - it should be kept in good condition - i.e. well painted to keep it waterproof.

                cheers,
