  • Accommodation on Gold Coast

    Hi All,
I'm taking my army of georgeous women, (daughters and wife), to the Gold Coast in January to do the theme park thing. Any advice on accommodation?? Prefer to rent an apartment or house, (5 of us).
    Any advice appreciated.

I usually use www.wotif.com.au or www.lastminute.com.au when I go to gold coast. But problem there is it is only good a few weeks out from date of travel since this is where excess accomadation gets placed.
Not a problem for me as I normally book airfares 2 weeks out myself since I work in industry.

But in reality you have a huge choice.Maybe search those websites for places then ring them direct for prices further than 2 weeks out www.whitepages.com.au . Some places are quite small so check that they are decent size apartments for 5 people. Usually the older ones are quite large but lack the modern touch.

PS If you need a car I have a very well priced rental company I can give you details of too. I pay $49 day I think.

        Hi Pooomba.
My husband and I took our 4 kids to the Gold Coast in July and did the theme park thing. We stayed at the Portobello Apartments in Broadbeach. It is directly across the road from the Pacific Fair shopping complex and about 2mins drive to the casino. It would be approx 5 mins drive to central surfers, 25mins drive to theme parks, and 10mins to Carrara markets. It's not the flashest place but very nice and reasonably priced. It has a pool and is about 3mins walk to the beach. I would definitely stay there again. Do a search on the internet for more details and pricing.
        Hope this helps.
        Holly.

          I stayed here in August

The place was great .... mostly made so by the attitude of the staff rather than the actual hotel. Right across the road from the beach, close to shopping and an easy drive to theme parks.

I t was good for me/wife/one duagther ..... it may be a little small for 5 though.

          good luck

          cheers

We stayed in a 2 bdrm apartment with a queen bed two singles and a pull out dble couch. I guess depending I what your after it may be small but because we were only sleeping there and out doing things during the day it suited us fine.

Hi Dean, I live around the corner from the theme parks, can I rent you a room !!
There are houses for rent also, but you may have a problem with a 2 week lease !!

On a more serious note, there is a plethora of accomodation on the GC, where do you want to be based, and what is your budget ? if you let me know I can give some suggestions.
I would get in now as that time of year is very busy !

Thanks Kiwi, we're looking at coming late January for about 7 nights. My kids don't go back to school til Feb 7th so we'll probably try for last week of Jan when the tourists are starting to head home. Happy to stay anywhere. Want stuff for the kids to do, like a pool, if it's a resorty place but would happily consider a house or anything really. We have a car so travel is no problem. In terms of budget I like to spend money on important things like food and my kids so not wanting to waste a fortune on accommodation.
Appreciate any advice you might have.
                  Dean

                    Poomba

We have stayed in Thornton Towers and its very handy to everything such as the beach, food places etc. They have both an inside and outside pool bbq facilities. Large 2 bdrm places and very reasonably priced.

Try their web site on www.thorntontower.com.au or better still do a google search and you will find their specials listed through other portholes.

                      Hi
My father owns an apartment in Hope Harbour on the Gold Coast, 30 mins from Brisbane. It has a master bedroom over looking the marina - own ensuite, another bedroom with 2 singles - another bathroom, and down stairs a double bed. It is fully gated and self contained.

We had our honeymoon there and it is lovely. Did the theme parks whcih are not far away.

Rates are around 120-150 per night, but check out the website for more info.

                      Have a great time!

                        My Penny's Worth

Depending on the ages of your girls I would recommend
                        The Twin Towers;

                        http://www.twintowns.com.au/index.asp

This place has a fantactic pool, 50 metres to the beach, great kids club, 5 restaurants etc and it's very reasonably priced.

It's attached to The Twin Towns Services Club and close to another affiliate called Club Banora who offer tennis courts, restaurants, golf course etc. The Services Club has nightly entertainment including overseas acts eg. Steve Earle is due to appear there shortly.

Fab place for parents wanting to let kids do their own thing.

Only detracting factor is it's full of Aussies!

                            Hi there Robot,

Appears you've missed the massive airfare war going on here in N.Z?

The fare we paid to the Gold Coast from Christchurch direct to Coolangatta in mid January was $39 per head on Pacific Blue. That's right NZ$39, there's no spello.

The Theme Parks in the U.S could be 50 times better but it would still be cheaper and far more convenient for this family to go to the Gold Coast.

Besides who decides to travel to a holiday destination based on the standard of their theme parks? What a ghastly prospect.

We'll be spending just 1 day in 10 at Wet & Wild.

Then there's the beaches in QLD compared with CA.

The only thing that swims in the waters off California these days is some mutant two headed fish that glows at night.

It also takes just 6.0 hours from our door to Queensland Beach compared to the 16 odd hours CHC-AKL-LAX (plus bus out to Anaheim etc)

Oh yeah, accomodation is A$160 a night for a family of five (with 4 adults).

You can't beat it for value mate.

                            See ya

                            Paul
