IHP Auckland unitary plan recommendations discussion
They've also removed density controls in the residential zones, prepare for Nimby-ism to have a field day.
Despite this plan being what Auckland needs for future growth, I can't see the Councillors giving it the green light - not if they want to keep their jobs past elections.
The way I see it the value of their house has gone up such is the new value of the land for developers, Sell up on move on, can't be any worse than the shoeboxes in england.
Exactly. This guy says it well: https://mobile.twitter.com/R_McGruff...44368721092608
The couple is getting a lot of flakes on Facebook, they are going to regret doing that article (with their picture) by tomorrow.
Why? They bought what is the typical Auckland lifestyle many people want, and it's likely to be very significantly impacted. If people want a Hong Kong lifestyle, move to Hong Kong....

I've been trying to say this for a while now.
Auckland is valuable because of what it is.
Turn it into something else and it won't be the same.
I suppose it is progress and the answer is to move out.
Many people in England moved out of London to small villages (with a train station) to get the lifestyle they wanted.
Harder to do in NZ without the transport but still doable.

Yeap, that is the change. You will no longer be able to have that lifestyle 20mins from Auckland CBD. Thousands of one/two bed apartments will be the answer to the 'affordable housing' question. I don't, however, think too many people are going to be satisfied by that.

Many people who has to live in NZ for job, study or family reasons want a more compact and urbanised lifestyle. Your argument is also true of people who want a suburban or rural lifestyle, move out or to another town.
NZ has only one big city that can grow to be a major city, it's Auckland, it's clearly where many people want to live, hence the population growth.
