  • John Key announces $1 Billion housing infrastructure package

    Wow.

looks like Auckland and other fast growing cities are going to get substantially larger now that councils won't shoulder the burden alone of infrastructure build out.

meedless to say, a lot of new housing supply will be hitting the market in the next few years. Invest (or divest) accordingly.

      Pffft.

A billion sounds like a lot but won't go very far.

If Auckland Council hadn't pissed away so much money over the last 6 years, they'd be able to do their actual job i.e. provide infrastructure.
      Squadly dinky do!

if councils quickly borrow it all

        and get cracking on infrastructure

you'd think more money would be made available

Like the post quake Christchurch I'm sure this will flow through the two or three companies "big enough" to manage it, i.e. Fletcher's and co. The drip down economic benefit will end early in that waterfall :-)

You would hope but they still need people to do it and we don't have them - or enough of them.
$1bn won't go very far really.

Gosh No don't give it to the council. Give it to the developer who can leverage it to create the maximum number of houses.

                    developers need infrastructure

don't think council will let anyone other than themselves be in charge of providing it

                    so make the money available

it at least removes another of their excuses for not providing enough of it

You just get 1/3 the infrastructure you'd get from a private party eri. For the same money I mean.
