  • $18m landlord who owns 37 properties: Don't be too kind to your tenants

Landlords have backed Auckland property investor Ron Goodwin who says they should not to be "too kind" because tenants take advantage.

Mr Goodwin, 74, has 37 properties in Auckland and Waikato generating $14,500 a week in rent.

Unbelievable. The Universe has treated him very well and he still has the audacity to whine. It looks like property isn't his thing and he should sell up and find another hobby. Maybe the sharemarket... lol.

But landlord Kevin Menzies stuck up for his sector and suggested the Herald's report on Mr Goodwin was promoting "anti-landlord hysteria".
    ......
"What crusade are you on and why? Most landlords are like me - working people trying to save for their retirement because the Government has abdicated its social responsibility in this sphere. We don't trust the share market and at least by owning property we can have some control over our investment."

How appallingly ironic. People like this are usually the same ones complaining about beneficiaries, and in the next breath justifying their lanlordary by whining the government doesn't pay the over-65 beneficiaries enough.

Just another sour grapes article trying to portrait landlords and property investors as villains of society.

I'm more than happy give the nay sayers a big fat two back finger salute.

Besides, what is the point of asking a priest about his opinion on the subject?

Can't believe the ridiculous text of the article. Tall poppy at it's finest.

I enjoyed comparing this article with Ron's article in terms of number of properties and weekly rent. Both value their portfolio at ~$18million.

Sounds accurate to me Gary. Geez I wonder where some of the bull**** artists of a few years back are now?

That's always been true, from Trump down.

With such stupid drivel from the herald - isn't it time Real Estate agents pulled their advertising from this budgie cage liner.

She refers to overseas examples which have no relevance to tenancy laws in NZ...

Oh yes, her point is that tenants are too downtrodden in NZ and we need laws like they have overseas to protect them.
