  • New roof leakage

We got our old roof replaced with new one and have seen 2 big leakages and some other issues with this new in just 1 year. When these leakage happened, roofing company don’t fix them immediately and takes 2-3 days atleast. Because of this mould has grown in our roof cavity but If i tell them that this mould is because of the leakage with new roof ,they ask me to give the proof that mould was not there earlier and new roof leakage has caused it. I don’t have those proof as I didn’t click any pictures when it was all good with previous roof.Roofing that they did is also not good. They just replaced the tiles, didn’t replace any rotten timber and the underlay . Aa per the quote , they has to replace them. What options do we have here. What can I do. Can I go to dispute tribunal and ask them for compensation. This thing is really impacting our mental health.

Did you pay the invoice when they didn’t deliver on what they were supposed to do? Did they have replace rotten timber and underlay in the quote?

If so I don’t know why you would pay their invoice. A year later is too long to wait however I believe you can still go to small claims tribunal as I believe you have got 18 months to do it.

    cheers

      Hi Donna,

      Thank you for responding.
No they didn’t replace it. Actually I was in hospital to deliver my baby and this was the time we had to pay the balance amount. Roof looked all good so we paid but after a week when we saw the roof cavity, we saw torn underlay and looked like nothing was done . They changed the tile and didn’t touch anything else. Now when it has leaked for the second time , we are really worried and that if may leak again in future. Its not giving as that peace of mind. Initially we didn’t know about Dispute tribunal and we can’t afford private lawyer. Now when I know about dispute tribunal , I want to give it a go but just not sure what can go wrong here . We are financially struggling and don’t have money to spend on legal things. That’s why asking here.

The link works and there is a small fee but think about what will happen to your property if you do nothing.

Make sure you can prove you have paid for the work as per the quote plus you can get a second opinion with another roofer. That’s what I would do as that too will strengthen your case.

Any professional would not leave rotting roof beams and old underlay. Plus is the roof cavity got insulation?

          cheers

Are these concrete or metal tiles?

replacing underlay is expensive as the battens need to be replaced.

Concrete tiles may not need underlay depending on slope of roof?
