    This headline captured my attention:

New builds 'absolutely not' recommended for first-home buyers

The increasing cost of building materials is jeopardising first-home buyers' finances.

The rapid rise in the price of materials such as bricks, timber and steel, of up to 50 per cent in the past year, is pressuring builders to invoke escalation clauses within so-called “fixed-price” contracts.

A lawyer warns there is no such thing as a fixed-price contract, and buyers need to beware.

Building costs may rise by a third

Anyone building at the moment? Seems NZ will suffer long delays for building supplies and pay up to a third more when they can get their hands on even the basics like 4x2 wood.

    House prices sure to rise!

    cheers

Just when you thought housing costs could not go higher, the old rule of supply and demand has kicked in as timber stocks run low.
