Replace shower unit and small ensuite renovation

I got a quotation for replace a shower unit and connect to main pressure cylinder for over 7k,is it too expensive? It is including shower mixer and slide shower, currently it is connected to a low pressure, but the main one is more closer; I got a quotation from plumber to just change mixer and connect to main, it is around 800-1k, so I think it is too expensive for over 7k? This quote got it around late 2016, I am in blockhouse bay Auckland.

Also I have a small en-suite want to do a complete renovation, including change Gib board, the size is around 1mx2.8m. I got a few quotation 2015, it is around 12-13k for a tile shower, but I change mind to with traditional shower unit rather than tile shower, is it will save a bit?

Any advise and recommendation trade people to do this job? Thanks

    Hi Billybhb,

If I was you I'd get another quote or two - that's the safest way to know if what you've been quoted so far is realistic.

            Hi
One way of doing this cheaper is to buy your components yourself and just pay the plumber to install.
Bunnings have a methven slide shower unit for $78
Many different shower boxes around the $1000 mark including floor walls and doors.
Then you need a mixer and a removeable trap. should be under $400
Now you just have the plumbers labour and a few fittings.

If the quote for the shower is from a plumber, suggest try a specialist shower installer. In Wellington, we use Shower King (plus a plumber usually), they know exactly what they are doing and prices are pretty good. Whenever possible we use the complete shower units.

Your quoted price sounds on the high side, but there is a wide range of units, prices and quality so hard to tell.

Sounds OK if there is a friendly plumber. Most prefer to provide materials themselves, nothing to do with markups LOL. Also, if going down that track, get advice first if not that knowledgeable - buy the wrong thing and it can cost.

Thanks for information, but I don't think I will go down to DIY, as so many things can go wrong. I am try the one you are doing in wellington, and so far it sounds will save quite a bit, but still waiting for the person com on site to give me a real quotation.
