  • Tiling over T&G floor

We're putting a tiled shower in a 1930's bungalow which will have to be signed off by council, and there was no stipulation that the T&G under the new tile underlay be replaced with treated ply/strandboard. Is is code to replace the old t&g?

    Cheers

Provided the t&G is sound it can stay and be overlaid with underlay for a flat tiled area . If you are creating a slope before tiling a wet area, you will need to remove the t&g, form the framing to the required slope and lay new flooring before the underlay and tiles

unless you put hobs in and form the falls on top of the floor, i would reccomend the tng under the shower be replaced any how, any movement is the enemy of a tiled shower

Not an expert personally, but did want to get this done - builder advised against it due to any house movement cracking the tiles. I did not validate this information however.
