Hi,
I'm currently working on my late fathers house before we try to sell it in the new year. It was built in the early 50's and hadn't been updated at all so I thought before we sell we would do the kitchen and bathroom and give it a good paint on the inside.
With the kitchen I have ripped some of the wall linings off and the ceiling and there is obvious borer damage. It looks like they have had a good party the last 65 years. While I haven't seen any live beetles I'm concerned about the amount of damage that has been done. Some of the framing is riddled with holes while other parts are untouched. I talked to a builder and he said to just give it a good whack with a hammer and if it doesn't fall apart then it's ok and if there are parts that do just replace them.
Is that generally what one does?
I'm trying to spend as little as possible as the house won't sell for much anyway and I've already gone far overboard on what I wanted to spend on updating it but I don't want any potential new owners feeling like they have been ripped off or anything.
Any advice?
Cheers
