Im in nelson, but thanks for offering Mark. The existing kitchen will need a major overhaul to get it up to scratch- we want to sell for a profit (of corse!) after doing it up, hopefully within a year.

We are in the process of doing up a relocatable house and it need a new ktichen, im just wondering how hard it is to make our own kitchen doors out of ply and stain them to look modern and that way reuse the original kitchen carcass, has anyone done this? or should we just splash out and put a new one in?

we use some kitchen places and they re-cycle kitchens, ie they use your carcass and make new door and benches. Very cost effective.

There's a business in Te Awamutu that paints your old kitchen cupboard doors and benches with car paint. They come up looking awesome. Really easy to clean and extremely durable.

Speaking of benchtops I saw one in a flat that had been painted. Unless you looked closely it looked like a new benchtop. Just a thought.

Great idea. It's not too hard to do if you've got the right tools. I've seen some stained ply doors at a motel we stayed at in Hawkes Bay and they looked primo. Might be a good idea to get a new bench top made up for a pretty minimal outlay and will finish things off really well.
