  • Removing Fibre Board Garage

I have a garage that I intend to remove. It is fairly old and clad in fibre board. I had a piece tested for asbestos and the result came back positive but they don't say how much asbestos.

The question is - do I need a specialist to remove the board? If so has anyone had any experiance in this who could advise on the likely cost?

    Hi Wayne

I looked into this in Wellington. Any one can remove and dispose of asbestos.

There are guidelines on goverment websites to follow for safety. Disposable overalls, dust masks etc.

It all about the dust. Wetting it down as you go, avoiding breakages, covering removed materials with a tarp.

Also, the landfill will charge more for disposal of asbestos and probably needs prior notice.

I am in the same position, with a garage that I want to get rid of. Who did your testing, what was the cost, process etc?

      Cheers

Watch the dumping fees, here in Wellington the WCC has a whole horde of forms to be submitted and fees to be paid, and that was only for a few sheets. It all has to be wrapped and sealed in plastic for starters !
