I'm currently looking at getting upvc double glazing for my weather board clad property. However I'm not sure I'm keen on the process that is being offered. The standard option is to cut out the existing windows and use the existing wooden frame, thus inserting the upvc window into the frame. To me this seems pointless - plastic low maintenance frame inside a wooden high maintenance frame. Its almost like a retro-fit.
I asked about replacing the frames and they said yes, as long as it was wood.
I definitely need head flashing and scribers as there is nothing in place at the moment. Its safe to say I may also need sill flashings.
Does anyone know if there is a viable option here? Perhaps a upvc surround, flange or scribers etc.
What are the pro's and con's or am I asking for the impossible? Whats the best process for my situation?
