  • Engineered Timber flooring

Anyone got any experience with Engineered Timber flooring?

    How does it look/feel
    What was the quality like?
    Cost versus timber?

    Would you recommend or not?

    Also . .

I have an old home with existing rimu flooring, but looking at this as an alternative for an extension to save costs.

    Cheers

      for flooring

      plywood is better than OSB

      both are apparently engineered wood

ie bits of wood stuck together

do you have any specific products in mind?

      the range is mind boggling

I've done a bit of research, and yes there are loads of options. I'm after something that looks like what I have, but is cheaper than getting rimu itself

Some of latest timber-look vinyls are surprisingly good.

look for one that is ply - ie several layers.
Make sure that the top lay (the wood you want to see) is fairly thick - they can be sanded and recoated after time.
I had one for 8years (sold the house so don't know what it is like now) and still looked great (tarkett - not cheap but was good). Layed over thin foam floating on a concrete base. Easy to lay to a new floor but a little harder if the skirting is down!
