Accommodation supplement not fueling rent rise

    Another rampant rumour refuted:

Accommodation supplement not fueling rent rise - report

A report commissioned by the Government has found landlords are not hoovering up accommodation supplement increases by hiking rents.

Motu found the 2018 increases did not go to landlords via an increase in rents charged to tenants, and that two years after the changes "around 90 per cent of the extra increase in assistance was kept by accommodation supplement recipients as an extra increase in after-rent income".

Motu said the supplement increases did not appear to be an important driver of the long-term growth in rents that was occurring.

Can't wait for Renters Untied and the rest of the NZ prostitute media to promulgate this information, far, wide and loud.

And they think it's worse then .All I can say it will be alot worse comes March. WHEN we have to increase as our deductible decrease. All thanks to our socialist government. Thinking about it all now I really looked after my good tenants over the years....As I upgrade my houses these days. Rents hikes follows market and these changes is in the last 4 years.

Yeah the divide will widen as homeowners stay at home more to spend less and keep on side with their lender. They’ll have spare cash to pay down more principal too.

While renters will use BNPL and store based free interest period schemes to spend. The homeowners will get wealthier while the renters will get more indebted and poorer.

All on Labour’s watch - hard to see them winning in 2023.

But will National wind back non deductible investor mortgage interest and improve LVR rule?

        cheers

Of course they won't. The gNats are simply Labour-Lite.

They'll likely make all the right noises in the run up to the elections and then claim it's too difficult afterwards.
