The 3 waters plan. Councils have to give over 100% of their water assets for just 50% stake - as the other 50% goes to Iwi.
What is this all about? Well, odd is what it is. The plan is based on the Scottish model - (yeah, that's weird!). NZ and its unique challenges are not the same as Scotland!
See here. https://www.nzcpr.com/the-three-waters-journey/. For a reasonable overview from a Council perspective.
What does the amalgamation mean for the areas that have spent $$millions of local ratepayers contributions for water meters etc?
See this video - who is it for? Under 5s perhaps..... oh and the Advert cost us $3.5m
This comment is on the Youtube page and it sums it up nicely.....
Who cares more about the needs of local ratepayers? The councils.
This new structure is set to take off on 1 July 2024 - just 3 years from now. We should all be very concerned and not let this be swept under the carpet.
cheers,
Donna

Labour has no faith in our hard-working councils - many of whom are doing a stellar job looking after our water. The last thing we need is mega-bureaucracy handling a job that depends on so much local knowledge and variable problems and requirements.
