  • Relocatable Houses and costs

    Hi everyone

I'm looking at the possibility of buying a section and putting a reasonably new relocatable house (less than 10 years old) on it. I've done some work researching this, but would like to hear from anyone who has done this and what, if any, pitfalls they found that I may need to be aware of.

    ANY assistance/hints greatly appreciated.

    Hi Essence,

Bit sad that nobody has replied in this thread, I was planning to follow it with interest.

I've seen many houses for relocation on trademe, at very reasonable prices, and I'm thinking that it may be worth exploring further.

          Relocation House

          Hi Essence,

I'm in the process of doing a relocatable in Masterton. Going in completely blind with no real idea, I estimated to spend $70K, but in reality it's looking like a $100K affair! I have a full excel sheet breakdown of all my costs. If you want to a copy of this, drop me your email and I'm more than happy to share it. A couple of unexpected hits were:
          1) Services were not to the boundary. This cost me approx $7K to get the council to bring services just to the boundary!
          2) Needed rewiring. Depending on th age of the house and if it was cut in half when transported, you'll need it rewired. Check with your local sparkie.
          3) The council has the final say in what you need to do up. e.g I gave them $10K as a bond and I don't get it back untill I paint, re-roof, etc. What ever they percieve needs doing to not make the place an eye-sore.

          Hope this helps.

On the same day as the Peter Capaldi announcement.

                  Coincidence ?
                  I think not.

Talk to the house movers that are in your area. They can give you a good idea of how much a house can be bought and moved for. Last time I spoke to a guy here, he said by the time you are finished he estimated it would be around 2/3rds the price of a new one.
