Sir Stephen Tindall among 83 millionaires wanting to raise taxes on the wealthy

Permanently?. "As Covid-19 strikes the world, millionaires like us have a critical role to play in healing our world," it says.

So please. Tax us. Tax us. Tax us. It is the right choice. It is the only choice.
Did anyone notice that Cur Tinsell already pays tax? Probably not.

The Junkhouse founder (where everyone gets some garbage) follows the path of a few other crocodile tear-jerkers. The screw-you (TradeMe) founder comes to mind.

The only reason such people suggest what they do is because:
    1) It makes them look good;
    2) It will not financially disadvantage them in the slightest.

Loosely speaking, the only reason such people got in to the positions of wealth which they have is because of profound stupidity and malfeasance of moronic politicians and the unfathomable, myopic self-inflicted ignorance of those who voted for the aforesaid.

E.g. Leaving aside the seemingly 'good' that gatesby and microcrapt have done in making computer tech available to the masses, has anyone ever calculated the financial losses incurred as a consequences of the release of their buggy and hack-prone software?

My problem (one of many) is that I'm a lay student of economics. My studies have equipped me to realise that almost all e-con-o-mists are indeed soothsayers, after-the-fact. I.e. People who will tell you why something happened after it happened, disguised as a prediction.

I wonder if Shammy and the other wilfully ignorant will 'weigh in' on this non-story?

Cur Tinsell: you and the rest of your ilk are "full of it." But I don't blame you. No. I blame the cranially devoid (aka woodenheads) for allowing you to do what you've done. In your case: export the jobs of thousands of kiwis to chairman Mao's mates.

Hello? Is there anyone there? Anyone awake?

The thing is the Green Party's 'wealth' tax is aiming too low i.e. not at really wealthy people. They're aiming at the people who are 'wage slaves' not the big business owners and Entrepreneurs. The cost to try and catch the mega rich is prohibitive and time consuming hence aim low and you can at least say you've done the best you can at catching anyone trying to be financially independent.

      Now here's a radical idea . . .

      Miss Mullins, take a letter.

      Address it to the:
      Prime Minister
      Parliament Buildings
      Wellington

      Dear socialist Cindy

With this letter I've included a cheque for ten million dollars, payable to the Inland Revenue Dept., to assist the country in recovering from the Covid-19 lock down.

I'm encouraging a number of other rich-lister friends to do the same.

      Please keep my contribution confidential.

      Your friend
      Stephen

Distributing wealth like a Robin Hood - taking from the wealthy and giving it to poor does not make the poor more financially astute, or even interested in money. All it does is give them the opportunity to go on a spending spree and this is what Governments want to boost the economy. It's the wage slaves and beneficiaries who love spending money. Give it to them and they will get rid of it as quickly as possible.

The rich are the opposite hence Trump giving a tax break to the wealthy on the premise that it would trickle down was a joke.

        cheers,

        Donna

The "middle class" were dispensed with many years ago.

The wealthy have been redistributing their wealth for many years.
              Not all, but many.

Andrew Carnegie (1835?1919), being a great example.

He was worried, like most of us, that the very poor, were very weak.
Weak of mind, and weak of conviction, and weak of opportunity.

The possibility that good money would be wasted on bad habits presented a big problem.
So he sought ways to give culture and education, to temper the weaknesses.

But there is another evil creature.
              A senseless leviathan.
              The modern Corporation.

It has no great brain (like Anew Carnegie), sitting atop its body.
              It moves and consumes senseless.

Cunning, it hides among the legal definitions that first gave it birth.
It moves assets to those who have sold their souls to aid it's journey.

Can an imaginary entity have morals and act wisely?
              Of course not.
It's impossible, it's only a thin fantasy of life, lacking all connection to real things.

              Should it be taxed?.
              probably yes.

              Will it attack?
              Probably yes.

Can it be tamed or tricked?
Of course, you just need to know what moves it.

Bullies do it all the time (Trump).
Ignorant people do it too (Trump again) as it is about as far as their thinking goes.

Interesting that McCluck spells humour in USAnglish. (U need to humor him?)

It may not be mis-spelling. It may be satire.

                        Some can tell the difference.

                        Some can't.

But we stray from the topic.

Cur Tinsell and the widow's mite comes to mind.

                          Why thank you for asking.

Sometimes the computer auto corrects words to US spelling.
                          Sometimes I make typos.
Sometimes I like the sound of the American spelling.
And since the internet has no location, I don't feel arrogant enough to force English spelling on another country.

How can you not already know this Peewee?

Kidding, just showing you how easy that shot is.

Is the alternate spelling a pre 1960's sort of humor?

Some of that pre 60's stuff works still.

The Marks brothers physical slapstick antics are funny.
(but only they can pull it off).

Groucho Marx was also very funny with the words.

and Shakespeare , from much earlier times, was very funny with the words.

I'm just guessing you need to deliver the lines personally in your case.
The internet must lose the subtle humor.

Personally, the stuff that makes me laugh is the human nature type humour.

A communist and a capitalist go into a bar.
The communist says to the capitalist, in my world I would share your BMW and you would share my Porsche.
The capitalist says, so in your world, I could have half your glass of beer then?
                            No, replies the communist.
                            Why not? questions the capitalist.
Because, replies the communist, I actually do have a glass of beer.
