Yeah I would offer to remove them for him if you can have them. Nikaus are not easy to transplant successfully though. Make sure you take a lot of dirt with the roots.

I spoke to the guy today, he says he's not going to pull them out, so that's a relief.

Thanks for all the suggestions though guys.

              A happy ending then.

But how did you know that they were 5-10m from the SEA? My property has had one of these slapped on it and I've seen nothing that specific.

Well I looked at the unitary plan map. It shows the extent of the SEA, if you turn on the right filter.

                It's natural resources I think.

When I got notified, I read something that said that those boundaries were only rough estimates and that in some cases might be completely wrong, as they haven't actually surveyed the areas, just looked on aerial/satellite imagery and what they've taken as contiguous native bush may in fact be adjacent exotic greenery.

i've seen the above on the auckland council gis viewer

some native bush, next to some poplars, a small pine plantations and a few big fast growing exotics

all marked by council on their sat maps as some kind of protected stand of native bush

presumably as they are all part of the green blob on the screen

blissfully unaware the owner has already cut some of the exotics out to get the view back

so sometime in around 20? years time a council web spotter will notice that the sat pics are different

and that native bush MAY have been cut down............

                    what happens then?

the property owner has to prove that disappeared poplar wasn't pohutakawa?
                    have you defeated them?
                    your demons
