Cutting back funding for park maintenance, reducing library hours and scrapping inorganic rubbish collections are among options being considered by a cash-strapped Auckland Council.Cutting back funding for park maintenance, reducing library hours and scrapping inorganic rubbish collections are among options being considered by Auckland Council.
Isn't the Auckland Council gearing up to build a whole lot of "affordable" housing using ratepayers money?

They always talk about how much they have to spend on infrastructure - because no one argues against that, what they fail to mention is how much they spend on salaries, corporate events, hiring needless stuff - in other words, the HUGE waste in spending in local government.
I mean 6 spin doctors for Len Brown? A mayoral staff of over 30???Squadly dinky do!

Infrastructure is one thing, but I object to funding for things like this (was in herald sideswipe as well):
POP is supported by the Waitematā Local Board.
The Park
Saturday 3 May - Monday 30 June | Victoria Park
Get involved in making The Park, a conceptual artwork that will be designed, planted and then plotted on a map with your help. The creation of the park starts through a website that visualises the territory traversed by bees as they travel from six central beehives to pollen hotels. You can get involved by coming to a workshop to learn how to create your own ‘pollen hotel’ at home.

John Roughan: Auckland should not lose services
People who have dealings with the Auckland Council invariably shake their heads in despair and the comfortably over-staffed, under-working morass of inefficiency they find there.
Applications for anything take forever.
Pointless, capricious demands are made.
The culture seems to be to take the maximum time to do the minimum work and find ways to generate more needless work if possible. If Len Brown was up to the task he would replace his publicists and political staff with some hard-headed people to keep watch on every cosy corner of the council and see that the city is better served.
That was the idea.

was in council offices the other day to pay an over-priced dog licence
and saw some nice rainbow stickers, with a maori phrase, on the counter
the leaflet said they were to be used on shops and buildings
that were "gay friendly"
it's hard to believe there is any sense or money being scarce at councilLast edited by eri; 12-07-2014, 08:57 AM.have you defeated them?

Yes, it will be nice when such stickers are no longer seen as necessary.
In the meantime trying to educate some of the prejudices and intolerance out of our city will continue.Last edited by speights boy; 12-07-2014, 09:23 AM.

Sounds like his marriage is over
Embattled Auckland Mayor Len Brown is selling his family home. The exclusive Tiffany Close property on the outskirts of Manukau City has been listed for sale.
Barrett said the substantial home and property was too big for the Browns and they wanted to find something smaller.
