I'd like to know whereabouts in Auckland they received a drop in rates. I know a whole lot of people who've received 10-20% increases from various parts of Auckland. There's got to be some very happy people somewhere if the average is 3.x%.
West Auckland is down substantially. It's just making things more sensible across Auckland. Before I was paying more rates for a $400K home out West than a friend was for a $800K in Epsom on a bigger section.

Unfortunately, a revolt wont get you anywhere.
Either you pay the rates or you sell your property to some other sucker who then has to pay the rates.
The Council don't care, as long as they get their money.
As someone said the other day: 'The Council treats ratepayers like an ATM'.
The only fair way is a poll tax, but that is electoral death as the number of people who do not directly pay rates right now outnumber those who do.

I've always thought rates should be a fixed amount on every property eg $2200 pa on every house. This would overcome the poll tax objection and the continuous argument about property values.
So far I seem to be the only one suggesting such a scheme.
I disagree - a revolt, if the majority joined in, would force their hand. They can't prosecute everyone.
Also, speights, I don't mind paying my share, but it's the level of increase to which I object. There's no need for it. Len's funding his stupid schemes and despite the worldwide economy is planning on borrowing much MUCH more to fund them. That, and now we have a much-touted equally calculated scheme for the entire city, but we do NOT have equal services.
Pakuranga Heights mine are up like 6% sitting around the 1750 mark, still cheaper then my other houses and its my highest value property by a huge amount, im sure my last one from Tauranga was sitting around 2k for a 300k house.

We don't even have an inorganic collection, ffs.
Interesting...... if the economy is tanking why does it seem everyone in Auckland is borrowing to buy property? Could it be the same justification for the council to get essential things done now to grow the Auckland economy while it's cheaper to do so? I would rather the city not continue to be some backwater town but a progressive international city.
