Mates protecting mates in property - Cosgrove
    NZPA | Monday, 22 October 2007

Housing Minister Clayton Cosgrove has again lashed out at the Real Estate Institute, saying there is a growing perception of mates protecting mates in the sector.

In a speech to the Property Investors Federation conference in Christchurch, Mr Cosgrove said final decisions for reform in the sector would be announced shortly.

"The current self-regulatory system lacks independence, transparency and accountability," Mr Cosgrove said.

"It is little wonder that there is a growing perception of 'mates looking after mates' in the sector."

Mr Cosgrove said the statistics spoke for themselves.

REINZ said between 2004 and 2006 it had referred only nine of the 507 public complaints received to the Real Estate Licensing Board which was the only body with real teeth in the system.

"Added to these are also an unknown number of complaints that REINZ has received from the police, insurance companies and other agencies, with no transparency as to the nature or the outcome of those complaints."

Mr Cosgrove also told the conference that a Residential Tenancies Bill was likely to be introduced later this year.

It was intended to create more stable tenancies for long term rentals and make it easier for landlords to recover losses, he said.

Clayton Cosgrove is just scoring political points. "I will save NZers from the rapacious real estate agents!" he says.

The REINZ was brought into being by the government as part of the Real Estate Agents Act 1976. Mr Cosgrove is now trying to make out it's the industry's own creation. It is not. The government created it, the real estate industry pays for it.

The current pro-tenant bias was brought into being by
the government as the RTA. Mr Cosgrove is now trying
to make out to the PIAs of NZ that it has "served us
well." (Just who 'us' is, of course, not defined). The
government created it to favour its main voter base
and the private residential rental property industry
pays for it. And, in their typical guileful way, the
government now plans to enhance tenants' rights at
the expense of PIs, even more.

Cosgrove wants a big job in the new cabinet , or maybe more. He has spent many years being rehabilitated on the back bench. He backed Mike Moore when he was rolled by Auntie.

It's all political rhetoric to get in the papers.

I doubt Mallard could give anyone a box about the ears. What does it say for national MPs when Tau Henare takes a whipping from the wet bus ticket that is Trevor Mallard?

I mean really, a bit of fisticuffs was totally what's it's all about in the days before the country was ruled by wimmin. Now they have to prostrate themselves before their female oppressors and beg for forgiveness.

Have you ever seen such a bunch of impotent dicks as Mallard, Maharey, Cullen, Hodgson, Cosgrove, Cunliffe et al? Talk about drone bees serving the queen. How do they look at themselves in the mirror?
