  • What do you want to know how to do?

    Hi All,

I understand the forums are not intuitive for everyone so in this thread - let me know what you want instruction on.

Perry says he wants to know how to add a picture in a post from his albums.

How to Add a Pic From Your Albums.

First you need to know where to find your albums -

    Click on 'my profile'

    then click on 'Media'

You may have a selection of pictures - click on a group of pics and you will see all the images in that group.

The click on the image you may want to add to a post - it will present all the images in that group and you click the image and you'll get a URL

Copy that URL and save it or use the 'Upload from URL' and paste it in - when you see the thumbnail of it you can select what size you want the image in your post.

You can also save images to your desktop and drag them into the area just under the "upload Attachments' or click on upload attachments and select the file from where you have it on your computer.

The image below was uploaded via the 'upload from URL - the same URL you see in the image above.

In most instances, users will upload new images each time and either drag them in or click the 'upload attachments'.

    cheers,

    Donna

I'll have a go. First thing, Donna, whereabouts are you in / on the forum, in your example?

I started from here - this post. It was lost when I followed your instructions. I could not get back to the part-scripted post.

So, second attempt. I left clicked on Perry, then I mouse-wheel-clicked on My Profile, so as to get a new tab and keep this post from vanishing.

I clicked on MEDIA and then on the Album 1.

The pictures in the album displayed.

Clicking on one picture changed the screen to a scrollable display of the album contents. Arrows available on each side to scroll forwards or backwards through the album contents.

I select / click the picture. The URL changes. I copy the URL of the image / picture from the browser address bar to my clipboard.

I return to the original post tab that I'd left, to get to the albums.

I click on Upload from URL.

I paste the URL into the box.

The picture appears below, (outside the text composition window / pane) with the size options.

    I click on Fullsize.

The image appears in my post.

Now to check if I can do that twice.

Twice in one attempt and success on the last two attempts. Wow!

    Another try . . .

    O.K. Made it to three.

I did note that once a picture had been clicked on to obtain the URL, I could see no way to get back to the album. That option seemed to be only available while scrolling through the album images.

It's hard to see how the vB code writers could have made the process more tortuous.

Next question: How to disable smilies in the post text.

Very happy with these videos - see the link image next to the camera? I have just learned how to use it effectively.

Click that and add in a link and you will see this image

You can then edit the title and description of the link and choose which image you want to show.

        cheers,

        Donna

I have no objection with smilies. What gives you that idea?

But when they mess with a poster's message layout, it was (once) easy to edit it to remove the problem.

As I recall the figure 8 followed by a closing bracket (as in a list) was always a problem. E.g.

Still is, according to the preview.

But nowhere beneath my post composition window is there an option to disable smilies.

IMNSHO, PT Forumites are far less likely to go off-site to figure out crazy changes than they are to be coached along by you, Marc or me, here, with some helpful pointers. E.g.

Previously, to achieve this, you did this. With the new forum software, to achieve the same thing, this is what you need to do, now.

              Hi Keys

the 'small arrows' go to the last unread post - in 'new topics', 'today's posts' and your 'Notifications' give you all new posts on discussions you've subscribed to and when you click on the discussion title you are automatically taken to the first unread post.

How to start a new topic

See the list of forums - now select the forum you want to start a new topic of discussion

If you can not see the 'new topic' that is due to scrolling and the new topic button becoming 'fluid' so first scroll slowly from the top down until you see this visual - if you have scrolled down further keep going until you see this....

As you scroll down that 'new topic' floats and stays at the top - but there is a short period where you won't see the new topic button so keep scrolling and look for it to appear at the top as in the image above.

Now click on the New Topic button and you see this - so you can add your topic subject and message then 'post'
