Actually, I'm with you - and I'd be a bit peeved with his communication. - If there was no attempt at appealing to your better nature and no discount applied to the amount he'd get paid by the broker - then he's not valuing the long-term relationship with you - i.e. years and the $$$ he has been paid...

Great post. The broker’s service to you is free.
You told him you’ll probably pay it back early. The broker probably thought - yeah nah. The broker could have been upfront at the time - knowing if you did pay back early they’d lose commission and said to you “umm but I’ll lose...Last edited by donna; 27-03-2024, 09:03 PM.

This can happen to anyone - don't let it happen to you
Today, scammers are using AI to outsmart us and steal our $$.
This family lost their home downpayment (deposit) - $167,000 USD.
The email looked authentic. It used the same language and was only $3 out from the amount the buyer's knew they needed to wire (electronic transfer)...

Investing in Reefton
Well here’s some positive news - a town with a great future and positive economy.
Two good revenue streams, cheap property, nice weather - so what’s not to like about it?...

^^ I like it Keys - only I've experienced first-hand businesses saying they need the deposit to 'buy' the materials and it's hard to argue it.
Though, I have wondered about this practice as the business would not need to pay for the materials, etc, straightaway as they would have an account...

Do your due diligence on suppliers
This will happen a lot more this year as low sales bite.
A couple chose the cheapest quote for a new kitchen - they paid a 50% deposit - the business went into liquidation - and the deposit was lost!
What's the lesson we can learn from this event?
Do your due diligence...

I doubt this could happen here.
I did a bit of online searching and found that in the UK you can have an IO mortgage for up to 40 years! A good arrangement for investors keen on cashflow but it's not okay for homeowners who are often ridiculously naive. I doubt this homeowner believed...

Why Mainstream Media is Dying
Sorry I accidentally deleted the earler thread
The handouts offered up by the Ardern Government to mainstream media continue until 2026 - is this why we're not getting balanced reporting? Muriel Newman - says it as it is - and hence confidence in the local media is dive-bombing....

When will the US share markets take a dive - ie when will the bear end this year and what will cause it?
Is it safe to say it will be smooth sailing up until the election?...

We probably need to acknowledge NZ is broke - thanks to Labour, the coalition has had to make some tough calls. I still trust they will get the job done.
Yeah we miss out on the 10%, and it’s disappointing, but we’re getting back to 100% a year earlier. There’s no getting around...
