And now the TPPA trade agreement will make it illegal to put any restrictions on foreign ownership-(up to some ungodly amount that pretty much eliminates housing) Will alot of Kiwi kids grow up to be tenants in their own country?
Im sweet--my kids are sweet--but that doesnt make the growing inequality any easier to swallow.
If china continues on this course, there may be less coming ''cashed up'' to buy,but there will always be foreigners able to take a piece of NZ while not even living here.(If that low Kiwi dollar teams up with a housing downturn,it will be easy pickings for some)
We are a pretty small little country--should we be on the action block for the rest of the world? I would have thought at least residency would have been a logical pre requisite.
Whether we agree or disagree, its looking like we have burned our bridges in terms of any sort of legislative change in this ,and alot of other areas.
If a property crash or big downturn does come ,it will be us who lose out while any one (in the world)who is sitting on cash can come and snatch up the bargains--at any time
That is true up to a point Skid but isn;t that just part of modern life. Air transportation and global information sharing means we all end up sort of playing in the same pool. It's sad because NZ culture and life is very wishy washy so we lose a lot of our uniqueness but I don't think you can legislate your way out of progress. Unless you want to become the next Iraq :-)
That's what 1 child per family does, good example where contraception early rather than later is better.
Isn't there a stat that the current worlds population greater than the sum of all those that have come and gone in the past.
There are so many apocalyptic threads around, it does indeed seem wise to buy as much Auckland property now, that one can, as you need to be buying for you, your children and your grand children.
