Can someone please give me a guide as to what it will cost to install an LPG califont hot water system and shower - from scratch? There is an existing bathroom / toilet area but it's never been used as a residence so only has cold water.

Either way, when I hear this my mind thinks "protection racket". You know the same nonsense that means a gasfitter is 3+ months away. The local sparky (useless twit) issued a CoC on this place without doing a megger test and I found a length of dangerous crumbling cable that the insulation fell off when I touched it. Don't get me started on the local surveyor who is incompetent dishonest **** who coluded with the real estate agent* to 'sell' us part of the neighbors property as well!
My attitude is **** it. When I want to get a project done and the so-called 'professionals' are hopeless, I learn how to do it myself, even buying any necessary tools.
*Who has a bad reputation in this area and has resigned his license. Our lawyer said it would cost a minimum of $20k to sue him and it wasn't worth it.Last edited by PTWhatAGreatForum; 02-08-2015, 12:23 AM.

i have done gas conversions on 2 houses, you dont need a permit here in Dn not sure about where you are, a Rinnai 27 cost $900 direct from a plumbing supplier, it needs to sit near hot and cold pipes in the house, it cost around $1000 to have the gas connected and certed, plus the plumbers time to disconnect some of the pipes under the house plus mains pressure mixer etc, as you have no existing hot water you will probably need a bit more work on the plumbing side plus the cost of the shower

Have no issue with doing the rest of the job myself. Tradespeople want to be useless, fine, I'll bypass them.
When a customer wants something from me I get straight on to the job. Despite that I would be hard to replace, I sure don't act like it.Last edited by PTWhatAGreatForum; 02-08-2015, 06:35 PM.

The cost of install was $1300 (I think, sorry away from bill zone) which included all pipework, copper on exterior and switch over valves for 2 x 45kg LPG bottles...also included the pad and chain for bottles but that's more of a courtesy in my mind...
They were professional and not the cheapest but it was a good job imo...
