Hi, would really appreciate advice. I have received 3 quotes for underfloor insulation products, all are within $100 of each other. We have a 1920s villa relocated to a coastal location (lower north Island) sea winds blow straight under and up into the house. It's freezing despite wall and ceiling insulation. The 3 products I've investigated so far for underfloor are Terra Lana, Mammoth and Pinkfit Batts. Given our location and need, does anyone have advice on the product to choose? Or perhaps there's another product better suited? Any advice appreciated! Thanks.

Had a house up the top of the hill at Paramata that was like that. Wind came underneath at about 90 kph.
Lined the floor with pinex soft board which I don't think you can get now. Worked a treat.
You could use something like hardboard and a foam liner. attach it by nailing with staples from staple gun. A bit of work but unless you stop the air going thru you are never going to win.
Wouldn't bother with the estapol. Wind would get around it easily.

We're using polystyrene - hard work applying it though as we're on a sand dune with little space to work.
cheers,

for us we were told the uf blanket stapled to bottom of joists was the easiest way to install. According to the tenant the result is exceptional. I got it done DIY by students and the company provided full instruction video. Pleased with result but still expensive. The new insulation requirements are going to make the suppliers and installers both busy and rich.

I used to do the following on each wooden floor house I lived in, to insulate, when replacing the carpet:
Ground cover
• Totally covered the ground, around the piles etc with black polythene.
Sub Floor
• Insulate under the floor with pink batts, stapled under the flooring in between the joists.
• Then staple that silver insulating paper (can't remember the name of it) underneath the joists.
Floor
• Staple building paper onto the floor, ensuring absolutely no gaps.
• Install a layer of Pinex Softboard over the floor. It didn't need fixing, it just stayed in place on its own.
• Carpet laid on top.
Worked for me... Floor was always really warm.
I only live in concrete floor houses now but still install a Pinex Softboard layer under the carpet when replacing.

Thank you all. Being a newbie I'm still finding my way around the forum. Appreciate the replies. The 3 quotes received are for Mammoth, Pinkfit & Terra Lana. Will definitely check out the other suggestions above. Wind is the big trouble causer, blowing straight off the coast and up into the house through the floorboards. Interesting that the 3 quotes (each $1500 give or take) were so similar in price when some companies had "specials" and other were just standard rates. The villa is 86m2. Thanks again.
