  • French Taxi Drivers - over the top

Geez when they revolt in France - they really let rip......

French taxi drivers smashed up livery cars, set tyres ablaze and blocked traffic across the country on Thursday in a nationwide strike aimed at Uber after weeks of rising, sometimes violent tensions over the U.S. ride-hailing company.
I think Auckland needs this service then everyone can leave their cars at home - this would speed up traffic at peak hours as up to two thirds of cars would be off the roads.

But we don't want this happening here.....

Taxi drivers complain that livery services like Uber unfairly undercut them and in recent weeks nearly 100 Uber drivers have been attacked, sometimes while carrying customers. One irritated taxi passenger was left with a broken face and black eye after he praised Uber.

The French are always over the top in their reactions.
Always interesting to see what they will do next.

yeah - they are pampered to too much. Their standard work week is 35 hours and if they work more than that they can get up to 10 weeks holiday! Spain I think is a bad - no wonder the British want out of the EU.

      cheers,

We were in Paris in February this year, overall our taxi experience was patchy, we were hustled to get us to take a certain cab, one driver didn't understand us and we resorted to our appalling French, another seemed to take a long route.
There were quite a few con artists elsewhere in Paris too, and Uber being unregulated could attract the wrong type of cabbie perhaps

We were there late July 2014 and our taxi experiences were good but a lot can change in short time. I agree with your thoughts too - there's a huge immigrant population there - and they'd be willing to work all the hours for next to nothing - that's just got going to be tolerated for long.
