  • DIY Garage in a 1938 house

    Hi everyone,

Building report has come back with an alteration for the toilet, this house built in 1938, his words were "the rear part including the toilet has been an addition" Since it was 1938 when it was built I have no house plans etc, no permit on file either obviously, would there be an insurance issue with this? For example if a fire started in the toilet..

Same with the DIY garage that has been there for 30-40 years, builder in report said it was sound but no permit has been made, since the work has been prior to 1992 they won't do a code of acceptence, how do I explain this to insurance companies? or do I run a mile at un consented work

Any advice would be appreciated! Thanks

I have un-consented and/or non-CCC building work covered by insurance.
Supposedly! But I did use a broker and the terms of acceptance of those
things were not unreasonable, I thought.

How would they know there was no permit if the records from way back weren't kept?

Talk to your local council property services, they will tell you if it's significant or not.

Generally council won't care for this if it's built before 1991.

You can always be safe and get a Code of Acceptance done.
