what happens after 999 years?

I owned one of these some time ago.
The lease amount was 10 cents and the lease period was 999 years.
So every 999 years I had to go next door and pay my neighbour 10 cents.
He would then come over to my house and pay me 10 cents.
Then we could sit back for another 999 years before doing it again.
As you can imagine, it wasn't a particularly hard thing to do so we never considered the cross-lease to be a negative thing.
