Advice on Permits for carports

I am looking at purchasing a property but am in doubt whether the carport has a permit.
the certificate of title shows a flat but nothing noted as a carport, the lim includes no documentation yet the private drainage plan shows a carport on the house plans.
How important is having this for the future?

How big is the carport? if it's less than 20sqm it doesn't require council consent.

Hard to tell, plans and scales are too sml to view but its long and runs the width of the house, could fit 2 small hatch backs in :-)

Just measure the area. Measure the lengths between the posts.

If it fits 2 small hatch backs, then probably only 2.5m by 7m long?? so it's close to 40m2 then?

I would think that councils won't really look into this kind of stuff, maybe if they know about it, they will just send you a letter ask for either building compliance or demolish it.
