  • locating a property owner

    Hi All,

trying to locate the owner of a property, thought this used to be located on the QV information but does not appear there now. Does anyone have any ideas on how to locate an owner?

    thanks

Sign up to Terranet, $5 gives you their names. Council can give you their names and address Auckland Council does it with presentation of Identification.
Do be aware Council is best option as lots of properties have investment groups listed as owners so not always easy to track down and lots also have foreign owners so sometimes not listed public or even in NZ.

The information on the Council Rating database can now
be marked as 'private' if the owner requests it. That was
introduced as companies were using the contact details
to send out lots of directly-addressed-junkmail.

That said, you are entitled to be given a reason for the
withholding of the information by the Council.

            That's unlikely to be correct.

However, it may be said that:
"Statutory provisions entitle a property owner
to request the Council to keep all their details
confidential and the owner of the property
you're inquiring about has so requested."

28C Owner entered on database may require local authority to withhold information from database

            (1) An owner whose particulars are included on the database may request the local authority to withhold his
or her name or postal address (or both) from the database.

            (2) An owner who makes a request under subsection (1)—

            (a) must make the request in writing; but

            (b) is not required to provide reasons for the request.

            (3) On receipt of a request, the local authority must, as soon as practicable,—

            (a) remove the relevant particulars from the database; and

            (b) notify the owner who made the request of the removal of his or her particulars.

            (4) An owner whose particulars have been removed from the database may, at any time by written notice,
revoke the request. The local authority must then, as soon as practicable, restore those particulars to the database.

Section 28C: inserted, on 7 July 2004, by section 4 of the Local Government (Rating) Amendment Act 2004 (2004 No 66).

The council provided me the information a while back for a property across the road which had some unruly tenants. They wont give it over the phone though you have to go to their office.
