  • Go Winston, you rock..

Finally some common sense on the subject..

New Zealand First wants to limit foreign ownership of residential property, and ban foreign boats and crews from fishing New Zealand waters.

except a vote for Whinny would be a lost vote since he said in the weekend that he will only negotiate post election with a party that promised to buy back the sold assets at what they paid.
Like that is going to happen!

          Easy.
          1% bought back per year.

Wait until the baubles and trinkets of power are dangled
in front of a bedazzled Winston First. All previous policies
will be void at that stage. A Chameleon - whazzat?

What do you mean 'Finally', hasn't this been core business Winston for 40 years?

                Yep, Winston stands for.... Winston!

He said no to the baubles of office, then grabbed them with both hands. Then he held up the sign that said 'NO' when the answer was actually 'yes'.

So you'd have to be nuts to vote for him. But of course everyone, even the seminar-sellers speak some truth in amongst the sales-spiel. And so I think his idea - his idea to copy Australia's idea that is - to limit offshore buyers is a good one.

But hey, now that I've been permanently emotionally scarred by developing, and own some residential property, I disagree - roll on the Chinese!
                Squadly dinky do!

The Chinese buy 25% of all foriegn purchased property - wow that's a lot (for a headline).
And foriegn purchases are 6% of the total.
So people, other than Chinese, purchase 98.5% of the houses - or bugger all.

Define foreign purchase tho - is that just those who go thru OIO, what about companies, trust etc registered in NZ by overseas interests??

There is a lot of RE marketing aimed at foreigners. I personally know of quite a few large farms (10,000+ha) owned by the Aussies, Italians and Chinese and I don't know that many big farms / farmers.

Winston has raised some good points.

But limiting foreign buyers has a lot of complications.

If you stop that, then who is going to invest in NZ??

Poor business owners who have to fork out more money (if minimum wage is increased) on the same less productive people.

                              Then there's all those inconvenient
FTAs to engineer a workaround for.
