Sewer line originating with the oldest house on the plot, follows original boundary fence into rear property that is on cross leased land. That house also discharges into the same pipe.
Several problems encountered, so who owns them . . . .
First one is relatively clear, ceramic pipe (100 + years old) has sagged between original house and the boundary. Probably first owners problem ?
Next problem is part way under the rear neighbours lawn, but before their connection to the pipe; large tree root through pipe partially blocking it. Root originates from third side neighbours pohutakawa tree. Who owns this one issue, the front original house, the rear neighbour, or the owner of the tree ? No other trees within sight, no mistaking where it is from.
Next problem is further down, past the rear neighbours connection into the pipe, where it is some 2 meters underground, and a large section of it has sagged. Not obviously causing an issue yet, but the problem has shown up on the camera footage we have paid for.
So, any thoughts anyone on who should be paying for the maintenance of this sewer line ???
