hi there. we rent out a house and have just added a flat at the back. we apparently have an old phone connection to the house so it can't be split to provide a separate line to the flat. (can't do it from the street either as it is a back section and would cost tooooo much). so to provide a connection to the new flat, it will have to be on the same line, number, and billing as the main house.
Most people want some sort of internet these days, and not necessarily a phone as they seem to be happy with cell phones. Our easiest option is to just provide the main house with the phone line, and let the flat provide its own internet via a vodem stick or similar.
this would cost tenants $50/month for 3gig, or $80 month for 5 gig.
this is expensive for the tenant but easier for us.
the only other option i can see is to extend the phone line to the flat, and have naked broadband for both. this would all come in one bill so the both places would just have to settle for dial up if either flat uses all the data. we would also open ourselves up to legal liablilties if one party does something illegal over the internet.
option one seems easier for us.
whats your opinion?
