    The latest being
Fonterra to build a new milk drying plant at Lichfield next to their cheese plant.
This is supposed to employ a few hundred during construction and
    50 to 80 after completion.

    And
A new railway yard to be built to enhance Tokoroa as a key distribution centre.
This will eventual employ 30 people.

    But
as has been said we've heard it all before.
Generally, people these days prefer to commute the 20-30 extra minutes so they can live in Hamilton or Rotorua than Tok. Most dairy factory staff work 4/4 with 12hr days, so it's even less of an issue for them commuting wise.

        Just like Aucklanders.

More to life than sitting in a car or a bus or on the train for 2hrs a day.

It's more like parking than commuting.
            Still beats public transport.

interesting comment given it takes an hour to get to hamilton in real life and at least 45 minutes to rotorua. im wondering where you get your information from to know the hundreds of staff preference - i dont no all of them but i know a lot that live in and around tokoroa who work there, and given the abundance of growth in the town with new housing and infrastructure idd say a lot more will move here for the myriad of benefits

I got my information from having been involved in the startup of nearly a dozen dairy factories. Only a handful will move to the local town, most commute from the local main center if it's within an hour and a half or so.

Some people who live in the local town may get jobs, but generally it's quite limited, the majority would be recruited with experience from the existing plants around the place.

Fair enough. I look forward to Tokoroa being the exception to that rule then

                      Yep, maybe true.
                      No traffic lights though.

And only an hour and a half to the ski fields,
or one hour to the sea.

Ahhh yes no long queues of traffic to get tied up in every day.

The dairy cooperative says it has been given resource consent
to build a drier at its Lichfield site in South Waikato capable
of processing up to 4.4 million litres per day and is
similar in size to the world’s largest drier at Darfield,
which produces up to 700 metric tonnes of whole milk powder per day.
