  • Converting into two dwellings

There's a brand new house in Mt Eden, Auckland that is being advertised as a rental by one agent as 1 x 3BD Room house, 2 x BD Duplex and 1 x BD Duplex. So one house but available in multiple configurations. They must be trying to see what they can rent it as.

Anyway if it gets rented out as a duplex - is that illegal? There is no firewall and it has a connecting door. And they are advertsing the 1BD as having a stove top and microwave. I'm assuming it's gone thorugh the permit process as a single 3BD.

NEVER assume anything. If it doesn't have a firewall, I'd be very suspicious. Check with Council.

As it was stated above, you need to check with Council first to make sure if all permits are present. People break a law every day, often they do not even know that they do so.
